I was at the Pro-Course last week and was so transformed by the end of the week that I just had to let you know. I am sharing this success story because I want you to know what the tools have done for me. I was born into and raised as a Jehovahs Witness. When I was a young girl, sometime between 10-13 year-old I discovered that I no longer believed in the teachings of the JWs. Since I could not leave and since love and appreciation from my family and fellow witnesses came as a result of doing well as a Witness I completely shut down. I shut down and put did not not make any noise. At 18 I went off to college, despite being told that JWs should not go to college, and left all of the communities of my youth behind. My resistance to JWs ways was so deep I stayed away from all forms of organized religion. The resistance that I had, along with the silence and the imprisonment I had entered as a young girl, manifested itself in me through: solitary drinking, slight bouts of depression, no connection to friends and family, a lack of purpose, and a slew of un-finished projects. With the help of the first 2 Avatar Courses and Wizards (twice) I was able to get past many of these issues. It was not until the ProCourse that I was able to shed the resistance to the Kingdom Hall and JWs and finally saw and understood the true intention of Avatar and the creation of an EPC. Prior to this I spent my time at the Avatar courses focusing on money creations and relationship issues and as soon as I heard about delivering I went into Float...I would do the Float exercises yet nothing could stop me from feeling that parts of Avatar were similar to JWs and the same resistances that I felt towards the JWs would resurface towards Avatar.
What allowed this shift? First, I have to say that my friend and Master Teal Thompson helped a great deal...less than 2 months ago I told her that I wanted to go to Pro-Course and we set the Primary...I almost went ahead and did what I usually do, which is to show up partially, meaning that I would bail out at the last minute. I finally opened up to Teal about the ways that I felt JWs and Avatar was alike...I likened delivering to going door to door and preaching as I did with JWs. It was this opportunity for honesty and her non-judgment that not only helped me get to the course, but also helped me SHOW up; for me there were no more naps in my hotel room, no more hiding behind my laptop, no more avoiding Teal and no more telling my friends in a very nice way to "back off". I was for the first time OPEN to receiving the gift of the tools. It was in the connecting with others aspect of the course that I was able to feel what an EPC felt like; especially during the TAKE BACK YOUR BODY exercise in the morning when we walked around an appreciated everyone with gratitude...I am still feeling the power, the love, and the gratitude of that experience.
During my time with the JWs, I honed the art of physically showing up and not being connected as well as the art of going through the motions...I was so good at playing this game that I even brought it with me to every Avatar course prior to Pro-Course 2008...I am happy to say that I no longer play that game. Again....THANK YOU!!!!
From Pro-Course Exercise: My vision
In 2006 I founded, The Color of Words, a non-profit organization that is at the forefront of training and developing tomorrows leaders today. We believe that every young person we work with can transform their lives by using the power of words, by engaging in the arts, and by actively participating in interactive exchange through digital and new media technology. Without the training and development that our youth receive, our community would lack the contribution of a strong and intelligent workforce necessary to compete in todays global markets.
Through this organization we diligently seek to go beyond the digital divide by offering youth who lack the resources and skills necessary to thrive in todays fast-paced, high-tech world, with hands-on learning experiences that builds both literacy and new media technology skills, all while providing tangible job training opportunities that align with the needs of the 21st century. We primarily serve youth who are low-income, at-risk, educationally disadvantaged and under-represented; 90% of our interns are low-income; 95% are of color.
My vision is - working in alignment with Stars Edge - to bring some of the youth that work as interns at The Color of Words, to Avatar (Sec 1-3) via scholarships that they will apply for once they are 18 (I can raise the money for the scholarships). My vision is to bring more people like me to Avatar...people whose indoctrinations are so ingrained that they dont even know it. People who come from communities like mine - urban communities, with high-poverty, crime and rampant drug use.
Again, THANK YOU for the tools...I am happy to be in service for the creation of an EPC!!!
